Bubblewrap Triptych

2020

When I say the words cardboard boxes and bubblewrap what comes to mind? The box that your latest delivery came in? The plastic filled with air filling up half of your bin? Or the joy in popping bubblewrap before you throw it away? or did you not even give it a second thought? Whilst we may quickly forget about the packaging our products travel in, all of these materials are still existing in the world in some shape or form, resulting in significant damage to our environment now and into the future, with some packing materials take more than 500 years to break down.

Bubblewrap transports, protects and implies that what it is covering is fragile, delicate and valuable, but what happens when the material is taken and used again on a monumental scale and you now come face to face with a material that is having a lasting impact on our world, these are the panels of our future. A material that will be seen as an archaeological relic of humanity with potentially still air stuck inside from 2020, found in 2520.
