Our Distant Places
2020
Our digital world has never been so interconnected yet physically we are the most disconnected we have ever been with each other. Only distant fragments remain as well as having new limitations on travel around the world, with anything beyond Australia not possible. 2020 will be marked as the year where the world changed, it marks a new decade yet it feels like 2020 is suspended in time and space. It is a time when society has had to work and respond to the world around them differently and adjust to the new version of normal, at least for the foreseeable future. What’s important now is to see the potential in this new normal and how from this moment in time we can reflect and reconstruct our new world. The Japanese technique of Kintsugi encourages embracing damage and the art of repair with gold. In the process of repairing things that have broken, we actually create something more unique, beautiful and resilient.
